Nipple ratio and flow rate
Ten to twelve birds per nipple is the working figure to 2.4 to 2.8 kg, tightening to eight to ten at heavier Canadian target weights. Flow rises with age from roughly 20 to 30 ml per minute in week one to 70 to 90 ml per minute by day 35. State target flow at age in the RFQ rather than simply asking for nipple drinkers.
Pressure, height and litter quality
Chicks start at 5 to 10 cm water column with the nipple at eye height and finish at 20 to 35 cm with the bird at roughly a 45 degree neck angle. Most leaking-line complaints are a levelling or pressure discipline problem, not a hardware fault — and wet litter drives footpad lesions and processing downgrades.
Freeze protection
The barn interior is heated, but service runs, well houses, medicator rooms and any exposed header are exposed. Specify heat trace and insulation on exposed runs, a drain-down arrangement for empty barns between flocks, and equipment rooms held above freezing. This is the block most often missing from an offer written for a warm-climate market.
Well water and treatment
Many Canadian farms draw from a well with hardness, iron or manganese that will foul nipples and medicators. Get a water test before the RFQ and include filtration, softening or oxidation as required, a proportional medicator compatible with your intended sanitiser, line flushing and a per-barn water meter in the same scope.

Where the cost band comes from
Equipment pricing is expressed as CAD 11–18 per square foot of barn floor, landed and installed. The band is derived from comparable sourced broiler projects in Canada and northern-climate equivalents (feeding, drinking, ventilation, heating, lighting and controls, including freight to the farm gate, installation and commissioning). It is a planning range, not a quotation — real quotes vary with brand, steel and freight pricing at the time of order.

What is excluded
Land, site works, concrete, steel shell, manure storage, generators, utility connections, quota purchase, working capital, chick, feed and vet costs, financing interest, depreciation, taxes and provincial permit fees.
