Plan poultry projects with official data, working calculators and a free workspace

Broiler, layer, breeder, hatchery, turkey, duck and goose projects. Every source is linked to its publisher with licence and limitations; every tool works without signing in.

The short answer

To plan a commercial poultry house or hatchery before buying equipment: (1) check official production, trade and disease data for your country; (2) size the house from your bird numbers and the density limit that applies to you; (3) estimate cost and payback in the farm-cost calculator; (4) send one structured RFQ so suppliers quote the same scope; (5) track milestones, budget and offers in a free project workspace. This page connects those five steps.

  1. 1Official data
  2. 2Size the house
  3. 3Cost & payback
  4. 4Structured RFQ
  5. 5Track the project

Poultry house size planner

Works for broiler, layer floor systems, turkey, duck and goose houses — you choose the density basis and limit. No sign-in needed; copy a share link or download a brief for your RFQ.

Formula: floor area = birds × liveweight ÷ kg/m² limit (or birds ÷ birds/m²); total length = area ÷ width; houses = round up (length ÷ max length).

Enter all values to see the result. Nothing is pre-filled because limits differ by country, species and buyer.

Preliminary planning estimate only — not an engineering design. Ventilation, structure and permits need qualified professionals.

Worked example (illustrative inputs)

30,000 broilers × 2.2 kg target liveweight ÷ 33 kg/m² = 2,000 m² of floor. At 16 m clear width that is 125 m of house; with a 120 m site limit you need 2 houses of 62.5 m. The inputs are illustrative, not a recommendation — use your own limit, breed target and site.

Method, sources and editorial policy

  • Third-party data: every dataset is linked to its official publisher with licence and limitations. HatchMatch does not copy or alter their values.
  • Original material: the planner formula, checklists and guides are written by the HatchMatch editorial team and are planning aids, not certified engineering.
  • Who must validate: structural, ventilation, electrical and permit decisions need a qualified engineer and your competent authority.
  • Updates: source links are re-checked and dated; the daily Industry Intelligence feed logs each refresh. Last full review of this page: 17 October 2026.

Frequently asked questions

Does the Intelligence Center show live FAOSTAT or WAHIS numbers?

Not yet. The FAOSTAT data service now requires an access token that is not configured, so we link the official query pages with their licence and limitations instead of showing copied or simulated figures.

Do I need an account to use the calculators?

No. Every calculator and source page works without signing in. An account is only needed to save a project in the workspace.

Are the calculator results engineering certification?

No. They are planning estimates from the inputs you enter. Final house, ventilation and hatchery designs need a qualified engineer and supplier confirmation.
