What the market research shows
Local search and supplier review (October 2026) found mainly small retailers, incubator makers and integrated farms in Douala and Yaoundé, plus buyer requests for semi-automatic slaughter lines and industrial farm equipment. Search demand for commercial terms is small and partly unknown, so this page is a planning guide, not a market-size claim. Cameroon restricts poultry imports to protect local production, and press reports in 2025 described sharp maize price rises and government maize imports to stabilise egg prices.
Feed is the first risk to plan
Maize makes up the largest share of poultry feed, and Cameroonian producers reported large price swings in 2024–2025. Before sizing houses, decide whether you will buy complete feed, mix on farm or build a feed mill, and record storage capacity for maize and soya. Use the farm cost calculator to test feed-price scenarios rather than relying on one supplier's profitability claim.
Import duties and documents in CEMAC
Cameroon, Gabon, Congo, Chad, CAR and Equatorial Guinea apply the CEMAC common external tariff plus community levies, and national VAT and fees also apply. Rates depend on the customs classification of each item, so ask suppliers for HS codes, a packing list per container and the Incoterm (for example CIF Douala or CIF Libreville). Confirm duties and any investment-code exemption with a licensed customs broker before signing.
Power, water and climate
Specify the actual grid voltage and 50 Hz supply, outage pattern, generator or solar backup for fans and water, and water analysis. Humid coastal sites (Douala, Libreville, Pointe-Noire) and hot Sahelian sites (northern Cameroon, Chad) need different ventilation and cooling designs; state the site, not just the country.
Disease and biosecurity
Avian influenza outbreaks in western Cameroon led to bird losses and movement restrictions. Include perimeter, footbath, vehicle disinfection and all-in/all-out layout in the scope, and confirm current veterinary rules with the national livestock ministry (MINEPIA in Cameroon).
