1. Layout is the first line of defence
Before any equipment is priced, the site plan decides a great deal: distance from other poultry sites, live-bird markets and water bodies with wild birds; separation between clean and dirty traffic; where feed is delivered without a truck entering the production zone; where birds are loaded out; and where mortality and litter are handled. Plan for a single controlled entry with a change of clothing and footwear, a perimeter that vehicles cannot casually cross, and dedicated parking outside the production area.
