West Africa: heat plus humidity
Coastal Nigeria, Ghana, Côte d'Ivoire, Benin, Togo and Senegal combine high temperature with high humidity for much of the year. Evaporative cooling gives less relief as humidity rises, so air speed over the birds carries more of the load: tunnel ventilation with the right cross-section and correctly sized fans often beats adding pad area. Corrosion is a real cost — specify galvanising and material grades explicitly. Port corridors (Lagos, Tema, Abidjan, Cotonou, Dakar) and the associated duty and clearing costs are a major share of landed cost; model them in the landed-cost calculator.
East Africa: altitude, temperate days, cold nights
Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Ethiopia and highland Tanzania often need heating and insulation as much as cooling. Altitude reduces air density, which affects fan performance and brooding: a fan rated at sea level moves less useful air high up, and ventilation calculations must be corrected for it. Day-to-night temperature swing makes house-envelope insulation and controller quality more valuable than extra cooling capacity. Inland freight from Mombasa or Dar es Salaam to a highland site is a serious line in the budget.

Zambia, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Namibia, Mozambique and South Africa need a design that handles hot summers and genuinely cold winter nights. That usually means better insulation, minimum-ventilation control that does not chill the flock, and heating in brooding. Grid reliability varies widely; where load-shedding is routine, backup power for ventilation is not optional and should be sized against the longest realistic outage.
