Climate decides the broiler house

A broiler house is a climate response before it is an equipment list. Peak temperature and humidity decide whether tunnel ventilation with evaporative cooling works at the hottest hour, how much fan capacity is needed per house and how wide a house can sensibly be.

  • Hot and humid sites: evaporative cooling loses effect as humidity rises — check the design hour, not the average
  • Hot and dry sites: pad cooling performs well but water quality and consumption become a planning constraint

Automation should match the site, not the brochure. Weigh labour availability and cost, grid reliability, local technician access and training against eight to ten years of operating cost before deciding how much control the farm buys.

  • Drinking: nipple lines with pressure regulation, and whether flushing is manual or automatic
  • Climate: a single controller per house, or a farm-level system with alarms and remote access
