Fan counts are sized at working static pressure, not free-air catalogue figures. Feed is one cycle at FCR 1.6 to 2.5 kg with 4% mortality; water is drinker demand only, excluding evaporative cooling. Scoped RFQ — what to send suppliers
Send the same ten items to every supplier and the offers become comparable. Send bird numbers alone and they will not be.
- Total bird places and how they split across houses, plus placement programme (all-in/all-out per house or per site).
- House dimensions, or a statement that the supplier should propose dimensions against your target density and welfare limit.
- Target stocking density, and the welfare limit that applies in your jurisdiction — several markets cap below 16 birds/m² or express the limit in kg/m².
- Design outside temperature and design-day wet-bulb for the site, not the annual average. This decides the cooling and heating scope.
- Electrical standard, voltage, phases and frequency, plus whether a generator is included in the supplier's scope.
- Automation tier required: manual pan feeding with basic control, or automated feeding with full climate control and weighing.
- Incoterm and named delivery point. FOB, CIF and DAP quotations are not comparable, and duty and clearing can add close to a third in some markets.
- Installation basis: supervision only or full installation, with commissioning, training and documentation named.
- Warranty period, spare-parts kit contents, parts lead time and the named local service contact.
- Required certification documents for your market, to be supplied with the offer rather than promised.
Sizing figures are planning-stage outputs for scope definition, not a quotation or an engineering design. Final specification must be confirmed by the supplier and a ventilation engineer against the surveyed site.
Why a country-level supplier list is the wrong starting point
Searching for suppliers by country answers where a company is, not whether it can deliver your project. At 20,000–50,000 birds the decisive questions are whether the supplier has installed broiler houses at your bird numbers, whether the ventilation package matches your design-day conditions, whether spares reach your site inside an acceptable lead time, and whether the offer includes installation and commissioning. A supplier headquartered on the other side of the world with a strong service partner in your country will usually outperform a nearby manufacturer with no local technician.
Fix the scope before you collect prices
The most expensive mistake in this band is comparing offers written against different scopes. One supplier quotes FOB with supervision only; another quotes delivered and installed with a spare-parts kit and a generator. The headline prices can differ by a third while the delivered cost is nearly identical. Write the scope once, send it unchanged to every supplier, and require each of them to price the same lines — including the lines they would prefer to omit.
Ventilation is where quiet under-specification happens
Tunnel fan counts quoted from free-air catalogue figures look competitive and under-ventilate the house in service, which shows up as heat mortality on the first hot week rather than as a commercial dispute. Require every ventilation offer to state the fan performance curve, the design static pressure and the resulting air speed at the birds. On the sizing table above the fan counts are derated for working pressure, which is why they sit above what a catalogue would suggest.
