India to the EU: egg products and table eggs after 3 September 2026
Short answer
From 3 September 2026 the EU accepts eggs and poultry for human consumption only from countries listed for that commodity under its antimicrobial rule. Implementing Regulation (EU) 2026/1189 added India and marks it for eggs, not for poultry. The listing is one condition only: each consignment still needs an eligible product, a listed establishment and the correct health certificate. In 2024 India reported egg-product exports to the Netherlands, Germany and Italy and no shell-egg exports to the EU.

Shell table eggs: what the rules say
- Antimicrobial listingVerified
- India is marked “X” for eggs in Annex XVIa to Implementing Regulation (EU) 2021/405, inserted by Regulation 2026/1189 and applying from 3 September 2026.[41, 44]
- Other entry conditionsUnresolved
- The listing does not by itself make shell eggs eligible. Check the animal-health country list, the certificate model and the EU egg marketing standards for the exact product.[7, 2]
- Trade so farVerified
- India reported no shell table-egg exports to EU countries in 2024; its reported shell-egg trade went mainly to Gulf markets and the Maldives.[30]
Egg products: what the rules say
- ScopeVerified
- Products of animal origin for human consumption, including egg products under heading 0408 and albumins under 3502, fall within the antimicrobial rule (Delegated Regulation (EU) 2023/905, Article 1).[42]
- Border checksVerified
- Since 3 September 2026 border control posts check that the health certificate carries the antimicrobial attestation and that the origin is listed for the commodity; non-compliant consignments are rejected.[43]
- EstablishmentUnresolved
- Check that the producing plant appears on the Commission's lists of authorised non-EU establishments for its product on the certification date.[45]
- Trade so farVerified
- India reported 2024 egg-product exports of USD 1.8m to the Netherlands, USD 1.3m to Germany and USD 0.7m to Italy — about 7% of its reported egg-product exports.[30]
What the listing means for each product
- Table eggs (HS 0407.21)Unresolved
- Listed for eggs. Animal-health eligibility, certificate model, establishment and EU marketing standards still need checking; no 2024 Indian exports to the EU were reported.[41, 7, 2]
- Egg products (HS 0408, 3502)Verified
- Listed for eggs and within the rule's scope. This is where India's reported EU trade is; each plant and certificate must still be checked.[41, 42]
- Hatching eggs (HS 0407.11)Unresolved
- Germinal products, not food. Whether the antimicrobial rule applies to a hatching-egg consignment, and whether India is eligible under the EU animal-health lists for hatching eggs, was not confirmed.[42, 7]
Capacity, bird-flu, antimicrobial and logistics checks
- Capacity
- State monthly or annual tonnes, lot size, product form and pack. Ask each producer for its plant capacity and existing commitments in writing; HatchMatch holds no capacity data for Indian plants.
- Bird flu and animal health
- Ask how the certificate's animal-health statements are met on the certification date, including the avian-influenza status of the source area, and plan for a listing or zone change before shipment.[7]
- Antimicrobial use
- Ask how the producer and the Indian authority support the attestation — no antimicrobials for growth promotion and none reserved for human treatment — and for residue results per lot.[43]
- Border entry
- Pre-notify each consignment with a CHED-P in TRACES and enter through a border control post.[46]
- Transport
- Dried egg products usually travel ambient by sea container; liquid and frozen products need an unbroken cold chain. Write storage temperature and humidity limits into the contract.[1]

Questions buyers ask
- Can the EU still import eggs from India after 3 September 2026?
- India is listed for eggs under the EU antimicrobial rule that applies from 3 September 2026, so Indian egg consignments can meet that condition. Each shipment still needs an eligible product, a listed plant and the correct health certificate.
- Is India listed for poultry meat under the EU antimicrobial rule?
- No. India has no mark in the Poultry column of Annex XVIa, so poultry meat and live poultry from India cannot meet the antimicrobial condition.
- Does the listing cover egg powder?
- Egg products under heading 0408 and albumins under 3502 fall within the rule's scope. In 2024 India's reported EU trade was in egg products, mainly to the Netherlands, Germany and Italy.
- Does HatchMatch put buyers in direct contact with Indian exporters?
