Reducing poultry farm electricity cost — measure the load before buying efficiency.
On most commercial poultry farms ventilation dominates electrical consumption, followed by lighting, feed handling and water pumping. Efficiency projects only pay back predictably when the baseline load profile is measured first.

Budgeting the upgrade? poultry equipment cost guide
Measure the baseline load profile
Sub-metering by circuit — ventilation, lighting, feed, water, ancillary — over at least one full production cycle shows where consumption actually accumulates and how it varies with outside temperature. Without this, efficiency spend is allocated by assumption.
Ventilation efficiency is usually the largest lever
Fan efficiency is expressed as airflow delivered per unit of power at a given static pressure. Older or poorly maintained fans lose substantial efficiency through worn belts, dirty shutters and blade wear. Higher-efficiency replacements, variable-speed operation where the design supports it, and reducing system static pressure through cleaner inlets often deliver more than any other single measure.
Control strategy, lighting and envelope
Over-ventilation caused by conservative set points wastes energy continuously. LED conversion with dimming appropriate to the bird programme reduces lighting load and heat. Insulation reduces both heating fuel and cooling electricity by lowering the load the systems must meet.
Backup power and solar
Generator sizing should follow the corrected load profile, not nameplate totals — oversizing raises capital and fuel cost. Where tariffs and irradiance justify it, solar or solar-hybrid can offset daytime ventilation load, which on poultry farms correlates well with peak sun.
Important limitation
HatchMatch is an equipment sourcing and project platform, not a veterinary or production-consultancy service. Equipment alone does not guarantee biological or production results — the guidance below describes factors that commonly warrant evaluation, and any capital decision should be confirmed with your own technical advisors.
