Poultry and egg importer demand map: 15 markets, their origins and import gates
In 2024 the largest poultry-meat importers among these 15 markets were China (USD 2.94 billion, 53% from Brazil), Germany (USD 2.24 billion), the United Kingdom (USD 2.09 billion), France (USD 2.04 billion), Mexico (USD 1.91 billion, 66% from the United States) and Saudi Arabia (USD 1.57 billion, 65% from Brazil), all HS 0207 as reported by the importer. EU markets buy mostly from other EU states; the US, Canada and Chile buy from a few eligible origins. For the origins buyers often ask us about, the only material poultry or egg flow we found was India's shell eggs to Qatar (USD 12.5 million, 21.6% of Qatar's 2024 shell-egg imports); Colombia, Peru, Ecuador and Kenya recorded no material poultry or egg sales to any of the 15. Every route still needs a current product-, origin- and plant-specific check.

How we prioritise these markets
This is our assessment from the 2024 data and the import gates above, not a forecast. We rank first the markets where large demand is met from outside the importer's own trade bloc, because a new origin can compete there once it passes the import gate.
| Tier | Markets | Why | What usually decides an offer |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 — large, open to non-bloc origins | China, Saudi Arabia, Mexico, United Kingdom, Qatar | Large import values supplied by distant origins (Brazil, Thailand, Russia, the US, the EU for Great Britain) | Plant listing for the exact product, current disease suspensions, halal documentation in the Gulf |
| 2 — large, mostly intra-EU | Germany, France, Netherlands, Belgium, Spain, Italy | EU suppliers dominate; non-EU shares exist (Ukraine 14.7% of Dutch and Brazil 12.0% of Spanish poultry-meat value) | EU third-country and establishment listing, tariff-rate quotas, EU marketing rules for eggs |
| 3 — concentrated, managed access | United States, Canada, Chile | Few eligible origins: Chile and Canada supply the US; the US supplies 82% of Canada; Brazil supplies 85% of Chile | FSIS or CFIA plant eligibility, Canadian quota permits, SAG establishment approval |
| Data gap | United Arab Emirates | No 2024 importer-reported data | MOCCAE slaughterhouse listing; use exporter-reported flows with care |
Where the egg demand is
- Shell eggs: Germany imported USD 836 million in 2024, 76.3% from the Netherlands; the Netherlands USD 489 million; Canada USD 226 million, 98.0% from the United States; Mexico USD 189 million, 77.7% from the United States.
- Egg products: Germany USD 282 million and the United Kingdom USD 196 million (64.2% from the Netherlands); Italy USD 115 million (49.1% from Poland); Belgium USD 124 million.
- Gulf: Saudi Arabia imported USD 99.4 million of shell eggs (Oman 22.6%, Netherlands 21.7%, Jordan 13.3%); Qatar USD 57.7 million (Türkiye 29.6%, India 21.6%, Iran 15.6%, Oman 13.4%).
- Qatar's Food Importers Guide includes a health-certificate template for table eggs and egg products that requires HACCP-based food-safety management at the origin establishment.
India, Colombia, Peru, Ecuador and Kenya: what the poultry and egg data shows
Peru's premium produce, Kenya's horticulture, Ecuador's shrimp and bananas and India's seafood are outside HatchMatch, which covers poultry and eggs only. Buyers for those products can use the Global B2B Group commodity marketplace; this page makes no claim about them.
| Origin | Recorded 2024 flows into the 15 markets | Status |

Who buys imported poultry in these markets
Lines that quote a report are verified descriptions from that report; the last line is a working hypothesis to check for each buyer.
- Mexico (USDA FAS, 13 Aug 2026): import demand comes from industrial processors and foodservice operators buying inputs such as chicken leg quarters and mechanically deboned meat for deli meats, sausages and other processed foods.
- Canada (USDA FAS, 17 Sep 2026): imports are typically chicken wings and breasts; wings mainly go to foodservice, breast meat to further processing, foodservice and retail.
- China (USDA FAS, 13 Jul 2026): import demand is expected to stay limited and concentrated in products with unique advantages, particularly jumbo chicken paws for high-end foodservice and processors.
- European Union (USDA FAS, 14 Sep 2026): chicken-meat imports run under tariff-rate quotas set by Regulation (EU) 2020/760; quantities above quota pay the full tariff.
- Hypothesis for all markets: an importer of record (trading company, meat importer or distributor) holds the permits and buys for retailers, processors and foodservice. No country-specific buyer report was verified for Saudi Arabia, the United Kingdom, Chile or Qatar.
What to put in a sourcing request
- Product, species and form (cut, chilled or frozen; shell eggs with grade and size; or the exact egg product), packing and labelling language.
- Destination market and port, acceptable origins and a fallback origin in case of a disease suspension.
- Volume per shipment and per programme, delivery schedule and Incoterm.
- Documents: the destination's certificate model for that product and origin, the plant's listing, and the food-safety documents your business requires.
- Total value: product briefs from USD 250,000 in total annual, seasonal or single-lot value. Buyers pay nothing; your identity stays confidential and our team contacts suppliers on your behalf.
Buyer questions
- Which country imports the most poultry meat among these markets?
- China, with USD 2.94 billion (942,278 t) of HS 0207 imports in 2024, 53.3% of it from Brazil. Germany, the United Kingdom, France, Mexico and Saudi Arabia each imported more than USD 1.5 billion.
- Does a large import figure mean a new supplier can sell there?
- No. In the EU markets most imports come from other EU countries, and the US, Canada and Chile buy from a few eligible origins. The importing country's authority decides which countries and plants may ship each product.
- Do Indian eggs reach Gulf markets?
- Qatar recorded USD 12.5 million of shell eggs from India in 2024, 21.6% of its shell-egg imports, and Saudi Arabia USD 0.73 million of Indian egg products. Current access was not verified, so confirm it for the exact product and plant before contracting.
- Can Colombia, Peru, Ecuador or Kenya supply poultry or eggs to these markets?
- We found no material 2024 poultry or egg flow from any of them into the 15 markets. That does not prove they are excluded, but a route needs product-specific exporter and destination validation before anyone relies on it.
- Is HatchMatch an importer or exporter of poultry?
- No. HatchMatch is a buyer-side sourcing intermediary. It is not a producer, exporter, importer or certifier, and it does not confirm that any route is admissible; the importer and exporter remain responsible for the destination's requirements.
