Organic chicken meat

Whole birds or cuts from chickens reared under an organic regulation — organic feed, outdoor access and set stocking densities — and slaughtered, cut and packed by certified operators. In the EU, fast-growing birds may only be slaughtered from 81 days of age, which is why slow-growing strains are common. As with eggs, the certificate must match the destination market's organic rules.

Quick answer

Organic chicken meat: Retail, foodservice and processors that sell chicken under an organic label. In a request, state whole birds or cut list, and weight bands; chilled or frozen, and the shelf life you need on arrival; the organic regulation and label you need. HatchMatch reviews it and contacts suppliers for you; supplier, availability, price and origin are confirmed per request.

Handling and transport
An unbroken cold chain, with organic product kept separate and identifiable from non-organic product at every stage.

General risks for this type of system — not a finding about any supplier.

  • Slaughter or cutting plant not certified organic, or not approved for the destination

Documents buyers commonly ask for

Where the product and route require them. Requirements differ by product and country; there is no single checklist.

  • Organic certificates for the farm, slaughterhouse and cutting or packing plant
  • Import certificate for each shipment where required
  • Veterinary health certificate and the plant's approval for the destination market
  • Halal or other religious slaughter certificate, if required
  • Lot traceability from flock to pack

Questions buyers ask

Why are slow-growing strains common in organic chicken?
EU organic rules set a minimum slaughter age of 81 days for chickens that are not slow-growing strains, and fast-growing birds become too heavy by then. State the strain or growth type you need in the request.
Does the slaughterhouse also need organic certification?
Yes. Every operator that slaughters, cuts or packs the meat must be certified for the organic claim to stay valid, and the plant must also be approved to export to your market.
