Total cost of ownership

Poultry Bid Lifecycle Cost Calculator

The cheapest quotation is rarely the cheapest house to run. Enter up to three bids with their CAPEX, energy draw, maintenance budget, spare-parts allowance and lead time, and this tool restates each one as a total cost of ownership over your chosen horizon — normalised per bird place and per bird place per year.

Shared assumptions

Use one currency throughout and replace the illustrative electricity tariff with your own. Escalation applies to energy, maintenance and spares; the discount rate is used only for the present-value row. Include quoted sensors, controls and installation in CAPEX, calibration/software costs in maintenance, and replacements in annual spares without double counting. No sensor count or energy-saving benefit is assumed.

Normalised lifecycle comparison

Enter at least a quoted CAPEX to see the 10-year view.

Indicative planning aid only. The figures are your own inputs restated on a common basis; they are not quotations, valuations, energy audits or engineering advice, and the tool does not recommend a supplier. HatchMatch is an independent procurement platform and is not a manufacturer, EPC contractor or lender.

What to ask each bidder for

  • —Connected load per house and expected annual kWh per bird place at your design conditions.
  • —Recommended annual maintenance budget, stated as a percentage of equipment value or an absolute figure.
  • —A priced first-year and steady-state spare-parts list, not just a promise of availability.
  • —Ex-works and delivered lead time in weeks, with the milestone each date is measured from.
  • —Expected service life and replacement interval for fans, pads, heaters, motors and controllers.
  • —Whether efficiency figures are measured at working static pressure or at free air.

U.S. NADPRP-linked scope: keep operating costs separate

For a qualifying U.S. applicant's preparedness brief, compare vendor-quoted costs before considering any competitive award. Record software, connectivity, hosting, security, training and support after grant end in a separate operating budget. This poultry-equipment model does not determine grant eligibility, allowable costs, award size, reimbursement or a traceability system's complete budget; do not enter a hypothetical grant as guaranteed savings.

How we calculated

How we calculated

The result follows the formulas and planning assumptions below. Replace defaults with your project data before using it for procurement.

No credit decision, pre-approval, offer, underwriting or guarantee. Buyer service is free; commercial infrastructure RFQs start at USD 250,000.

Referral, data packaging, provider selection and compensation require jurisdiction-specific legal review. No provider availability or regulatory exemption is confirmed.

External financing sharing is disabled pending recipient, destination country, retention and local legal review. Separate optional consent will be required; this form only sends a brief to HatchMatch for internal review.

Illustrative scenario only. Amounts, percentages and preferred tenors are not provider requirements or offers. Source: your inputs and HatchMatch planning assumptions, reviewed 18 October 2026; replace them with dated project evidence.

  1. year-1 energy = bird places × kWh per bird place per year × energy price; year-1 maintenance = CAPEX × maintenance % per year; spares as entered per year
  2. each later year y is escalated by (1 + escalation)^(y − 1) and summed over the horizon (1–30 years, default 10)
  3. delay cost = (bid lead time − fastest bid lead time, in weeks) × bird places × cost per bird place per week
  4. lifecycle total = CAPEX + energy + maintenance + spares + delay; present value discounts each year's operating cost by (1 + discount rate)^y
  5. cost per bird place = lifecycle total ÷ bird places; per bird place per year = that figure ÷ horizon

Limits

  • Compares bids only on the figures the buyer enters from each proposal; feed, labour, financing, tax and residual value are not included.

Project budget bands

Small commercial poultry projects typically plan in the USD 500K–5M range; larger commercial projects in the USD 5M–30M range. These are planning bands, not quotations — use the calculator above to restate real bids on one lifecycle basis. HatchMatch's human-reviewed procurement support is free for buyers and covers projects from USD 250K.
