Transfer (day 18) requires moving every egg from setter tray to hatcher basket within a narrow window; an automatic transfer machine handles 30,000–100,000+ eggs/hour with in-line candling that removes clears and saves hatcher space. Take-off (day 21) requires separating chicks from shell and unhatched eggs, counting and moving them to processing; automated take-off, separation and counting typically replaces the largest single shift of manual labour in the plant.
