Tripling a 100,000-bird layer farm normally means two to four additional houses, a central egg-handling line sized for roughly 250,000–270,000 eggs a day, a transformer and generator review, more silo volume, and a decision on whether the original houses are modernized to the same standard. Egg handling and grid capacity — not housing — are the usual bottlenecks.

Converting open-sided houses to closed, tunnel-ventilated houses means sealing and insulating the envelope, installing tunnel fans and inlets, adding cooling and a controller, and upgrading electrical supply and backup power. Whether the existing structure can carry the conversion — span, height, floor and foundations — decides between retrofit and rebuild.

Automating a manual layer farm usually starts with egg collection and feeding, because those consume the most labour and cause the most product loss. Manure belts and climate control follow. The business case is built on labour removed, breakage reduced and consistency gained — not on the automation level itself.
