Grandparent Stock Facilities
Grandparent stock (GPS) facilities house the elite breeding flock imported directly from primary breeders. Their output is parent stock hatching eggs. GPS sites operate at the highest commercial biosecurity tier below the primary-breeder pedigree lines.

Role within the project
GPS is the national or regional gate-keeper for genetic supply. A single disease outbreak or biosecurity breach at a GPS site can compromise commercial output for 12–18 months across the value chain.

How rare are GPS sites?
Most countries have between zero and a handful of GPS sites — many countries import PS directly and skip domestic GPS. A GPS project should only be developed with primary-breeder engagement and long-term offtake commitments.
What is the biosecurity difference between GPS and PS?
